1999-2000: A Message from Phyllis Boeddinghaus, President:
Salutations to all officers, committees and members of MEHS. After a summer hiatus, I hope you are ready to resume activities. The programs will feature our members and focus on local history. We will meet at Centenary United Methodist Church, the Senior Citizens Center and have two field trips.
A Colonial Cemetery Committee with Bill Smith, Bill Ainslie, and other needed volunteers, will continue cleanup and restoration. And a fence is sorely needed to protect existing headstones.
2000 is the theme of the Country Fair. We will feature a limited edition of Boyhood Days in Old Metuchen, sketch of Franklin School, 1888 Cookbook, postcards, notepaper, maps and poster of Toonerville Trolley. Please come to the Fair on Saturday, October 2nd (rain dates 9th & 16th ) to support fundraisers that keep us financially sound. Volunteers are needed (10 a.m. to 4 p.m).
Once again, we are fortunate to have display cases in the Library from January 15th to February 15th 2000. Our activities will be listed in the Metuchen Centennial Calendar of Events-2000. Look for it and save the dates. Photos from Grimstead Room archives will appear in the Metuchen 2000 Chronicle. We are pleased to assist anyone looking for information or copies of photos. Thanks to Marie Vajo, Ellen Miller and Edith Guattery for many hours spent in the Grimstead room, and I welcome Steven and Tyreen Reuter as new Membership Secretaries.
I feel proud to be your President going into the millennium and look forward to an exciting year.
Membership in the Historical Society (which includes the Genealogical Club) is only $10 a year.
